yellow jacket

OMG we love love love this look!!  In an era where we are all so obsessed with black, us included, we love the dramatic effect this mustard blazer has on the outfit.  It softens and styles it up immediately.  And the rolled up sleeves is such a hit with us, who can be bothered with cuffs/sleeves getting in the way of your bracelets, watch, food, coffee etc.  Colour is powerful.  It certainly gets you noticed and it transforms an already great outfit like this one with fitted black pants, leather/vinyl top, gold accessories and cool ass aviators to the next level of awesomeness!!  It actually makes the outfit pop and that is the magic of colour, especially paired with black.  Keep accessories, shoes and bag neutral, only 1 item must pop!  Don’t go into overload or you’ll kill it. Just saying 😉

Black Heels with mesh

Why are we women so obsessed with shoes?  We all have different reasons for loving our footwear and why not:

  1. they add glamour
  2. change our style without being right in other people faces
  3. give us height
  4. look pretty
  5. add a special something to a somewhat unexciting outfit and the list goes on and on

This particular style of shoe looks hot!  The exposed ankle boot with stiletto heel is incredible sexy.  Just be mindful that ankle boot styles make the legs appear shorter and if you don’t have long legs they can appear stumpy to choose carefully when pairing with your outfit.

Jewellery

Bohemian style is just that!  Eclectic, old, worn, tells a story, unique and so on. What it isn’t is glitzy, shiny, brand new and like all the rest.  You can mix and match and it always works.  And this type of jewellery allows for very simple clothing.  Long maxi, tank top and shorts/skirt, basic T and jeans, very uncomplicated clothing as the jewellery is the stand out! One piece of advice….this style always looks better with a tan so get your Model Co. spray and creams out and bronze up!!  Who cares if it’s Winter in Melbourne instead of the hot Summer in Bali.  You’ll feel better for it.

Ainslee hall of fame edited

The final product! Ainslee all done up at the awards night that we styled her for. Her minimalistic accessories really allow for the dress to shine. And shine it does! Ainslee originally had her heart set on a headpiece to go with this outfit, but we thought that would offset the glamour of the dress. We instead decided to go with a side sweeping fringe to keep the look elegant and simple. We really think it worked and Ainslee couldn’t have been happier with the end result.

rock chic look

This look is a personal fave at vonFaulkner!!  So so so hot.  Loving the rock chic style with feminine fabric flowing.  It’s a look that is different from the norm but don’t be a sheep!!  Be interesting, get people noticing.  The rock chic look is so easy cause we all have a denim or leather jacket, and if you don’t go to vintage or second hand store and buy one.   Wear it with a flowing dress, long or short.  Add military boots and you’ve mastered the rock chic with style.

The Grace Kelly clothing exhibit held at the Bendigo Gallery in Victoria a few years ago was an incredible experience.  The range of styles Grace Kelly adopted went far beyond what the media showed us.  A fave from the exhibit was her black wool trench style coat worn on a boat the eve of her marriage to Prince Rainier.  A coat we would wear in a heart beat today. And then as the years progressed she turned to African and Indian styles wearing turbans and saree style outfits.  This woman knew how to dress for her age, how to flatter her shape, how to be beautiful.  And she is remembered for it.

oscar de la renta pink dress

The dress bought for Carrie by “the Russian”.  Oh how we loved the Russian remembering she preferred her own form of poetry, fashion, and that Oscar was his friend!!  And then to present her with the dress from the magazine!!  That is what fashion dreams are made of.  The dress itself would suit many body shapes due to the waistline with the belt. The best thing about this dress is that is covers your butt and thighs.  All hour glass, pears and rectangles take note, this is your dress! So ladies, walk like there are 3 men walking behind you, even though you know you don’t need them 😉

And we personally think all dresses finished with a belted waist are perfection.

Large tote and scarf

We know what that little inner voice is saying, “It’s Sunday!!!  Can’t I just wear my PJs or tracksuit all day”??  The answer to that is absolutely not, to both.  Sunday is meant to be your day off (sorry to all shift workers, and to anyone really who has to work Sundays) and yes you are meant to relax but you also try to get out and shop, do lunch, afternoon drinks etc.  You can be casual but still stylish.  And the biggest tip is your accessories.  Simple jeans and nice T will work well (and be comfy) but pair it with killer sunnies, awesome bag, bohemian style earrings, and we’re talking about a different look altogether.  And when it comes to footwear, heels will help complete the look, especially for lunch or afternoon drinks, but go comfy style, so again may we repeat the brand “Paul Green”.  We have his black pumps, nude pumps and grey suede ankle boots, all platform, all look amazing, all super comfy.  Dare you to try running after the bus in them, you’ll make it!!  They are that good.  You’ll look and feel so much better, which at the end of the day is our mission!

gold Alexander McQueen dress

We love this quote by Alexander McQueen simply because it tells us how powerful clothes and styling can be!!  To actually instill fear into others with the garment worn on your back is incredible.  There is no feeling like walking into a room knowing that you are shit scared of how full on your outfit is but wanting to do it anyway simply cause you know the outfit frickin rocks!! All you need is the confidence to carry it off.  That means looking people in the eye, walking up to the bar instead of hiding in the crowd, walking alone along the public street to the event/interview/occasion etc.  Do it once and you’ll never think twice again.  You’re not being rude, not being suggestive, not being inappropriate, not hurting others feelings…. you’re being stylish and making others notice it.  And they will notice!!  It’s a power that will make you feel amazing. Every woman must feel this power. But warning…it’s addictive.

black leather_yellow bag

Day wear can be the hardest thing to decide on cause we need it the most.  We have our special going out clothes, our sleepwear, our underwear, our winter coat etc etc.  But the day wear goes on and on and on……. How do we keep stylish, keep our look up to date, not go to much effort, just throw it on and most of all NOT be bored with our own clothes??  Simple tips:

  • leather jacket plus denim jeans, or reverse leather pants and denim jacket.  All you need is T shirt and cool bag (either bright coloured or vintage style brown/tan leather)
  • black always looks good but make sure the pieces are good quality or at least good cut! Pair with bright colours such as hot pink, lime green, fluoro yellow
  • interesting footwear always adds appeal to basic jeans/pants.  Military boots adds rock chic appeal.  If you want heels go for Paul Green pumps/boots etc.  Soooooo comfy and will last you all day!!  Will set you back approx $400/pair but if you wear all the time the cost per wear reduces to being cheap as!!  You won’t regret this purchase.
  • cool T-shirts always work.  Go for vintage black and white prints, gold emblems, simple quotes on basic white T are the top choices.  Avoid pale colours if you have pale skin.  Never works well.
  • never wear material that balls (but if its your fave, gently shave it with your razor to remove the lint)
  • easy long jacket is the best all rounder.  Light weight, denim like material, interesting colour such as khaki green, cobalt blue, grey etc.  Hangs easy over the ass, not tight, cut well, interesting cuffs/buttons, great collar!!
  • long tops over skinny jeans/leggings etc.  Tops with wide bat sleeves are perfect with these style of pants.  Add with flats/boots/runners.  Can’t fail and comfy!!(also great for those of us who want to conceal our bigger waists yet look slim)

black and white outfit

Karl Lagerfield couldn’t be more right!  Black and white works every time.  It compliments every body shape and always looks sharp.  But don’t make it boring! So the way you work it is to mix it with pops of colour through shoes or bag and/or combine with other fabrics such as denim jacket/leather pants etc.  And while talking about colour, another great look is black jacket, white T and coloured (any colour works with black and white so pick your fave) cigarette style pants (slim style pant finishing just above ankle).  Wear with heels, wedges or flats depending on occasion. Another great alternative is to stay away from the traditional shaped black jackets and wear a tuxedo style jacket as in the picture or a shorter crop jacket with 3/4 sleeves.  The look is simple but with a twist.
